EQUIPMENT

Mineral wool mat forming equipment

The forming section collects fibers and builds the mineral wool mat that feeds the production line. FIMEC SH adapts it to the fiberizing heads, binder and product: flight systems, low-pressure drums for glass wool or collection equipment for loose-fill stone wool.

Products

Mineral wool

Function

Fiber collection and mat forming

Technologies

Flights; low-pressure drums for glass wool; loose-fill stone wool collection

Design

Modular, configured for the production line

Feed

Fiber collection: 2 to 10 fiberizing heads, depending on configuration

How it works

Forming technology is selected to suit mat width, basis weight and cleaning requirements. In the flight system, seals limit air and material leakage, while exposed components are protected against binder-related corrosion. For loose-fill stone wool, a stainless steel hood collects fibers before overhead conveying. Layout and maintenance access are defined with the adjacent equipment.

Key features

Fiber collection matched to the number of fiberizing heads

Reduced air and material leakage on flight systems

Protection of components exposed to binders

Cleaning arrangements suited to production conditions

Width

Fiber collection: mat width of 1,000 to 2,500 mm

Working width

Flight system: 1,000 to 2,600 mm

Speed

Flight system: 80 m/min, depending on product and configuration

Basis weight

Drum system for glass wool: 8,000 g/m²

Hood

Loose-fill stone wool: stainless steel

Transfer

Loose-fill stone wool: overhead conveying

Cleaning

Loose-fill stone wool: motorized brush, impact jet and high-pressure spray bar

Lubrication

Loose-fill stone wool: central unit

Protection

Flight system: protection against binder-related corrosion

Flight forming produces a continuous mat; low-pressure drums are used for glass wool. Loose-fill stone wool collection uses a stainless steel hood and overhead conveying.

The table distinguishes these processes. Collection width and flight-forming width do not describe the same assembly; drum-forming surface mass is expressed in g/m².

Forming: examples by technology
Parameter / technology Application specifications
Fiber collection 2 to 10 fiberizing heads; mat width of 1,000 to 2,500 mm
Flight forming Working width of 1,000 to 2,600 mm; speed of 80 m/min
Low-pressure drums for glass wool Basis weight of 8,000 g/m²
Loose-fill stone wool Stainless steel hood, overhead conveying, integrated cleaning and centralized lubrication

For loose-fill stone wool, cleaning combines a powered brush, an impact jet in the suction chambers and a high-pressure spray bar. Centralised lubrication completes the assembly.

On the flight version, cleaning devices and corrosion protection take account of the binder being used.

  • Fibre and binder type.
  • Number of fibre production heads to connect.
  • Required mat width and surface mass.
  • Production speed and transfer conditions to the curing oven.

These inputs determine the forming process and its interfaces with the mineral wool board line.
