EQUIPMENT
Cross-cutting equipment for insulation boards
Cross-cutting determines the board length as the mat advances. FIMEC SH assesses chopper and gantry-saw configurations against the product, cutting cycle and movements of the production line.

Coordination with mat travel
Cutting rate
Chopper: up to 60 cuts/min, depending on production conditions
How it works
The chopper cuts the mat to length using knives driven by a crank, gearbox and servomotor assembly. Two independently servo-driven linear modules provide squareness adjustment. A gantry saw offers an alternative cutting technology with synchronized transport. Both arrangements include a platform for maintenance access to the upper section.
Key features
Speed
Gantry saw: cutting speed up to 120 m/min
Drive
Chopper: 2 linear modules with independent servo drives
Squareness
Chopper: correction through the independent modules
Knives
Chopper: crank, gearbox and servo motor
Transport
Gantry saw: synchronized
Maintenance
Platform for access to the upper machine section
The chopper uses a knife system with a crank, gearbox and servomotor. The cross-cut saw is mounted on a gantry with synchronised transport.
The reference figures use different units: cuts/min for the chopper and m/min for the saw. They cannot be compared directly as two board throughput rates.
| Parameter / technology | Application specifications |
|---|---|
| Chopper | Up to 60 cuts/min; squareness adjustment using two independently servo-driven linear modules |
| Gantry saw | Cutting speed up to 120 m/min; synchronized transport |
| Maintenance access | Platform access to the upper section on both arrangements |
On the chopper, two independently driven linear modules allow squareness correction. Control coordinates travel with the knife cycle.
On the saw gantry, synchronised transport accompanies cutting. Required board length and line travel define the sequence.
A platform provides access to the top of the machines for maintenance. The layout must retain this access around the conveyor.
Selection between a chopper and saw depends on the product, thickness, required lengths and production rate.
